US lauds Pakistan’s resolve to fight terrorism

Secretary of State says Pakistan an essential partner of the US in advancing shared goal of peace in the region.

Pakistan and the US have reaffirmed their commitment to a long-term and strong partnership for regional security and stability.
The commitment was made during the fifth ministerial level Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue held in Islamabad with Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and US Secretary of State John Kerry leading their respective delegations. According to the joint statement issued after the dialogue, the two leaders reiterated their commitment to deepen and enhance the relationship between the peoples of the two countries.
The two sides reviewed progress made in bilateral relations last year and held wide-ranging discussions on sustaining and further building on the momentum in bilateral cooperation. Secretary Kerry conveyed that a strong, prosperous and democratic Pakistan is an essential partner for the United States in advancing the shared goal of a stable and peaceful region. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of the Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue for providing vision and direction for a strong and cooperative partnership between the two countries. Secretary Kerry expressed appreciation for the sacrifices of Pakistan’s military personnel and civilians in the fight against terrorism and extremism He commended Pakistan’s resolve and the steps being taken to tackle terrorism in a comprehensive and robust manner. Both the sides committed to meeting again for the ministerial-level Strategic Dialogue next year. Both sides reviewed the progress made by the Working Groups on Economic and Finance, Defense, Law Enforcement and Counter terrorism; Security, Strategic Stability, and Nonproliferation; and Energy. They also acknowledged the importance of ongoing cooperation through assistance authorized under legislation known as the “Kerry-Lugar-Berman” act. The two sides also reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding and deepening bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation.
